How to Show Up in ChatGPT and AI Search

AI search visibility is whether ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, or Perplexity names your company when a customer asks who to hire. Those answers favor recent, regularly updated pages on your own site, along with recent reviews and a name and phone that match. Drumroll publishes those pages, and handles the reviews, the profile, and the audit around them.

Updated October 2026

Short answer: Answer engines pick a business they can cite, and they favor recent pages and posts on that business's own site. Recent reviews and matching business info matter too. Drumroll publishes the fresh posts and pages to your site, keeps the reviews and the Google Business Profile coming, and checks what the assistants say. You approve the words. Your team taps a card and takes the photo.

How ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, and Perplexity pick a business

They do not share one index. They look for the same kind of proof: a recent sentence they can repeat, tied to a business they can identify, on a page they can fetch.

  • Google AI Overviews sit on Google. They cite pages and listings Google has already crawled: your site, your Google Business Profile, and reviews on that profile. A newer page and a newer review are easier to treat as current.
  • ChatGPT web answers lean on Bing. If Bing has not crawled the page, ChatGPT has less to quote. When OpenAI is gathering pages for search it uses OAI-SearchBot. That crawl is separate from training crawlers.
  • Perplexity cites pages it can fetch, including with PerplexityBot. A blocked crawler, or a page that never says the service and the town, gives it nothing specific to name.

Across all three, the useful record is recent. A homepage that has not changed, and a profile with no new work, is an old story. A page that answers the question, and a post from a job this month, is something they can cite.

Drumroll's AEO Engine asks the major assistants about your business and reports whether you are named and who they recommend instead. The pages, posts, and reviews on this page are what give those answers something new to use. A longer article on the same idea is AI visibility for local service businesses.

Recent pages on your site

AI answers favor recent, regularly updated content and pages on a business's own site. Stars next to a website that has not published in a year are a weaker record than a site that keeps adding a page for a service you actually sell, a page for a town you actually work, and a post from a finished job. Assistants quote the page they can read. If the newest page is from last year, that is the story they have.

Drumroll handles that publishing. From the Growth plan up, a tech snaps a photo of the finished job in the app. Drumroll writes a post that names the service and the town, you approve it, and it goes to your Google Business Profile, Facebook, Instagram, and a recent-work page on your site. Those plans also add automatic blog posts and pages built around the questions people ask AI locally. You approve an article before it publishes. It goes out to the site you already have, including WordPress and a Drumroll-built site.

Those pages are the fresh content. The rest of Drumroll runs in the same week: the reviews, a Google Business Profile that stays active, a weekly audit of what the assistants say, and, on the Dominance plan, citations, backlinks, and press.

AEO, GEO, and SEO

SEO is ranking in Google's regular results and the Map Pack. The public pieces are the profile, reviews, a consistent name and phone, pages that say where you work, and links from real local sites. What local SEO is is the plain-language version of that work.

AEO means answer engine optimization: being the passage an answer engine quotes when someone asks a question. GEO means generative engine optimization: the same aim for generative answers, including ChatGPT, AI Overviews, and Perplexity. The labels differ. For a plumber, a pool route, or a pest company, the work is the public record those answers can cite.

Drumroll's AEO Engine is the answer-engine side. It runs the weekly audit and drafts the pages an assistant can quote. The reviews and the weekly Google Business Profile work are the local SEO side, including the Map Pack. The two share one record, and Drumroll keeps both of them moving.

Reviews an assistant can quote

A review that names the service and the town is useful. "Cleared carpenter ants in the east neighborhood" or "opened the pool on time in April" tells both a person and an assistant what you did and where. "Great service" is a star. It is a weak sentence to quote. The review still lives on the Google Business Profile. The kind of sentence that carries the detail is in positive review examples.

Drumroll gets that review at the job. Each tech has a tap card or a stand. One tap opens your Google review page, credited to that tech. Text and email follow up after the job. AI writing help is there so the review mentions the service and the town. Customers who already left a review are not asked again. If the company uses Pool Brain, JobNimbus, or Rotor, a finished job can send the request from that software. The dashboard shows who on the team drives reviews.

One name, one phone

Assistants have to decide that separate listings are the same company. The name, the phone, and the service area or address should match on the website, the Google Business Profile, Bing Places, and Apple Business Connect. Hours and categories belong in that check too. When those disagree, a cautious answer has a reason to skip you.

Drumroll keeps the Google Business Profile and the website on one story. From the Local plan up, the profile is managed weekly: posts, photos, services, and Q&A. The pages Drumroll publishes describe that same business. On the Dominance plan, citations go out under that same name. Bing Places and Apple Business Connect need that same name and phone on the listing. The weekly profile work and the pages are the part Drumroll runs.

Bing

Google is where the Map Pack lives. Bing is where ChatGPT's web answers look. A site Bing has not crawled is harder for ChatGPT to cite, even when the Google profile is active. The name and phone on Bing Places should match the Google profile. OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot are how those answer engines fetch a page when the site allows it.

Drumroll's part is the page those systems can quote. Fresh posts and articles are published to your site, which is what ChatGPT can cite from your domain once Bing has indexed them. The AEO Engine then checks whether ChatGPT is naming you. Indexing means the page can be found. The reviews and the new service pages are what make it worth citing after that.

Roundups and review sites

An assistant will quote a page it did not find on your domain. Local roundups, trade directories, and review sites are those pages. A mention helps when it is specific: your service, your town, and a reason. A paid post on a site with no readers does not become a citation just because it is online.

The Dominance plan is Drumroll's authority work: citations, backlinks, and press, so the business shows up on other sites under the same name. The pages on your own site are still the source those mentions can point at. Drumroll keeps that source current with the posts and pages above.

What we handle for you

Your team does the job. Drumroll handles the record the assistants read.

  • Reviews. Tap cards and stands, plus text and email after the job. AI writing help so the review mentions the service and the town. Reviews tracked by rep, with a leaderboard.
  • Google Business Profile, weekly. Posts, photos, services, and Q&A, from the Local plan up, so the profile shows recent work.
  • Fresh posts and pages on your site. From the Growth plan up, Gigs turn one job photo into a post on Google, Facebook, Instagram, and a recent-work page on your site, after you approve it. Those plans also publish blog posts and pages that answer local questions, after you approve them.
  • What AI says. A weekly audit of the major assistants: whether you are named, who is recommended instead, and what to fix next. Included from the Local plan up.
  • Citations, backlinks, and press. The Dominance plan, for the other sites assistants cite.

Plans stack. Each one includes everything in the plan before it: Drumroll, then Local, then Growth, then Dominance. There is no annual contract. Pricing is built around the business, on a demo, not on this page. Your team taps a card at the end of a job and snaps a photo in the app. Drumroll writes the posts and publishes them after you approve. Book a demo to walk through it on your own profile.

How you can tell it is working

The weekly audit is the check. It asks the major assistants about your business and reports whether you are named and who they recommend instead. A month with a new review and a new page is a different record than a month with neither. There is no score that guarantees the next answer. Drumroll does not place you inside ChatGPT.

Pest control and pool companies

The services are the same. The questions customers ask are not.

How to show up in ChatGPT and AI search FAQ

How do I get my business to show up in ChatGPT?

ChatGPT names a business it can cite. That record is recent pages on your own site, reviews that name the service and the town, and the same name and phone everywhere. Its web answers lean on Bing, so those pages need to be indexed there. Drumroll publishes the fresh posts and pages to your site, keeps the reviews coming, and audits whether ChatGPT is naming you. No tool can force the sentence it writes.

How do I show up in Google AI Overviews?

Google AI Overviews cite pages and listings Google already has, and they favor recent ones. A complete Google Business Profile, recent reviews, and a current page on your site that answers the question in plain language are what those answers use. Drumroll keeps the profile active each week, brings in the reviews, and publishes the pages after you approve them.

What do Perplexity and the other answer engines read?

Perplexity cites pages it can fetch, including with PerplexityBot. OpenAI uses OAI-SearchBot when it is gathering pages for search. If robots.txt blocks those crawlers, or Bing and Google have not indexed the page, the assistant has less to quote. Drumroll publishes fresh posts and pages to your site for those crawlers to read, and the weekly audit shows whether the assistants are naming you.

What is the difference between AEO, GEO, and SEO?

SEO is the work of ranking in Google results and the Map Pack. AEO, answer engine optimization, is the work of being the passage an answer engine quotes. GEO, generative engine optimization, is the same idea aimed at generative answers such as ChatGPT, AI Overviews, and Perplexity. For a local company the jobs overlap: fresh public proof. Drumroll's AEO Engine runs the audit and the pages. The reviews and the weekly Google Business Profile work are the SEO side.

Do reviews still matter for AI search?

Yes. A review that names the service and the town is a sentence an assistant can quote. A stack of "great service" lines is weaker. The review still lives on the Google Business Profile. Drumroll gets those reviews with tap cards, text and email after the job, and AI writing help so the review mentions the service and the town.

Why does Bing matter if my customers use Google?

ChatGPT web answers lean on Bing. A site Bing has not crawled is harder for ChatGPT to cite. The name and phone on Bing Places should match Google. Drumroll publishes fresh pages to your site, which is what ChatGPT can quote once Bing has indexed them, and audits whether ChatGPT is naming you.

What business information has to match?

The name, the phone, and the service area or address should match on the website, Google Business Profile, Bing Places, and Apple Business Connect. When those disagree, a cautious answer has a reason to skip you. Drumroll manages the Google Business Profile weekly and publishes the pages on your site, so the profile and the site stay on the same story.

How do roundup and review sites affect AI answers?

Assistants cite third-party pages, not only your site. Being named on a roundup or a review site your customers already read gives the model a second source. A paid post on a site nobody opens does not do that job. On the Dominance plan, Drumroll adds that kind of authority: citations, backlinks, and press.
