Marketing Agency vs Software

A home service retainer buys people and a monthly meeting. The local work they are hired for is a loop software can run from the route.

Short answer: Published agency retainers we verified live run from $950 to $10,000 a month, and that fee is usually separate from ad spend. Scorpion, Pesty, and PestPeak do not publish a dollar price, so they are left out. Drumroll is software that replaces the agency for reviews, Google Business Profile posts, local pages, and AI visibility. It does not publish a rate. Book a demo for pricing.

What the retainer is paying for

A typical home service marketing agency sells some mix of local SEO, a Google Business Profile, review requests, a website, reporting, and an account manager. Pest specialists add the same work with pest language: termite pages, mosquito season, route density. The monthly check is the management fee. The money that goes to Google Ads, Local Services Ads, or Meta is usually a second check, paid to the ad platform.

That split is easy to miss on a proposal. WebFX states it directly on its pest control page: what you pay the agency and what you invest in advertising are two budgets. If a quote is one blended number, ask for the lines before you compare it with software. Software does not buy your clicks. An agency retainer often does not either.

The work owners feel week to week is smaller than the proposal. Someone has to ask for the review while the visit is still fresh, post a real job to the profile, and publish a page that answers a question customers already call about. That is the loop in pest control SEO. An agency can staff it. A route can produce the raw material, and software can turn the photo and the finished job into the post, the ask, and the draft page.

Read the scope with the fee. Cube’s $950 tier is SEO, Google Business Profile management, and a set number of content pieces for a smaller fleet, not a media department. WebFX’s $575 local SEO line is a service start, not the $3,000 custom plan. Blue Corona’s $5,000 pest floor is a full marketing package, and the $3,500–$10,000 range is the broader home services answer on a different page. Straight North is an SEO retainer, not a pest-only shop.

Checked, and dropped

Three names come up constantly for pest and home services, and none of them print a retainer.

  • Scorpion. The home-services FAQ answers “how much does it cost” without a dollar figure: the investment depends on your goals. The same page says marketing technology and SEO typically require a 12-month contract, while Google Ads, Local Services Ads, and Meta are typically month to month. Scorpion’s FAQ.
  • Pesty Marketing. Pest-only, one company per city, and you own what they build. After an initial 3-month agreement the contract goes month to month with 30 days’ notice. No monthly fee on that page, and Cube’s comparison says Pesty’s price is a quote. How Pesty works.
  • PestPeak. Programs are labeled by company revenue (under $500k, $500k–$1M, and seven figures), not by a monthly price. PestPeak’s programs.

Roundups that assign those three a starting monthly fee were not used, because the number was not on the agency’s site. Built-Right Digital publishes home-services pricing, and the live pricing page currently shows more than one full-service ladder, so those amounts are left out until a single figure is the one on the page.

What you still do with an agency

The retainer does not ride along on the route. Someone at the company still has to get the tech to ask, send photos of real jobs, approve pages that mention products and guarantees, and answer the one-star review about a callback. The agency can write the reminder and the report. The week of work is still yours, plus a meeting.

Contracts differ, and they are part of the price. Cube asks for 12 months, then month to month, with no setup fee. Scorpion’s FAQ describes 12 months for marketing technology and SEO. Blue Corona’s pest page says you will not be held to a long-term contract and that you own the deliverables, including the website. Pesty’s page says you own the IP and that the engagement becomes month to month after three months. Get the cancellation line and the ownership line in the same document as the fee.

What Drumroll covers instead

Drumroll is the software that replaces your marketing agency for the local loop. The tech taps a card at the end of a job and the review page opens, credited to that person. Text and email cover the stops where nobody was home, and people who already reviewed are skipped. The Local plan keeps the Google Business Profile active each week and audits what major AI assistants say. Growth adds Gigs, one job photo posted to Google, Facebook, Instagram, and your site after you approve it, and the local pages you approve before they publish. Dominance adds citations, backlinks, and press. There is no annual contract and no setup fee.

This page does not invent a Drumroll price. The rate is built around the business. Book a demo and walk one week of real jobs through it. If the hole is only reviews, start with the pest review tools or pool review tools comparison. If the hole is whether assistants can name you, read AI visibility for pest control and AI visibility for pool companies. The operating checklist is pest control SEO.

Keep an agency when you want a person buying and tuning ads, or when you want a pest-only team with city exclusivity and you are willing to take a quote. Use software when the missing piece is the weekly proof: the review, the post, and the page, produced from work the route already finished.

Agency retainer vs software FAQ

How much does a home service marketing agency cost?

Published retainers we could verify on a live page run from $950 a month at Cube Creative Design to $5,000 and up for Blue Corona pest control marketing, with Blue Corona’s broader home-services packages listed from $3,500 to $10,000 a month. Straight North starts SEO at $1,500 a month and says most clients invest $4,000 to $8,000. WebFX custom plans start at $3,000 a month, separate from ad spend. Scorpion, Pesty, and PestPeak do not publish a dollar retainer, so they are not in the table.

Does the retainer include ad spend?

Usually no. WebFX says the management fee and the money you pay Google or Meta are two budgets. Built-Right Digital says the same thing on its pricing page, though that page lists more than one full-service ladder, so those dollar amounts are not cited here. Ask any agency for the split in writing before you compare it to software.

Why are Scorpion, Pesty, and PestPeak missing from the price table?

Their sites do not publish a monthly dollar amount. Scorpion’s home-services FAQ says the investment depends on your goals. Pesty Marketing describes the contract and the work, not a fee. PestPeak names programs by company revenue and does not list a monthly price. Third-party roundups that guess a starting fee were not used.

How much does Drumroll cost?

Drumroll does not publish a rate card. Pricing is built around the business, with no annual contract and no setup fee. The number is on a demo, not on this page.

What does the software cover that an agency retainer usually covers?

The weekly local loop: review asks credited to the tech, Google Business Profile posts from the job photo, local pages you approve, and a weekly read on what AI assistants say about you. Media buying, a phone system, and a replacement CRM are a different purchase.
